Social Radar Top Brands

The Social Radar Top Brands is a list of the most social brands measured by the number of unique topics of conversations throughout each month. Social Radar determined rankings according to the number of individual websites with at least one post about each brand to accurately capture the brand’s reach across the web.


Top Brands – November 2009

The success of Windows 7 has increased the chatter of Microsoft and Windows. Verizon has made it into the Top 50 this month and AT&T increased rank mostly due to chatter around recent Verizon-AT&T attack ads. The biggest surprise this month is Android, or “Droid”. It has made a remarkable jump to 11th place, surging past heavy hitters iPod, Blackberry, and even MySpace.


Top Brands – October 2009

NFL dropped 10, while NBA jumped 11 spots as the basketball season kicks off. AT&T has dropped, while other cell phone related brands have increased such as LG, Blackberry and newcomers HTC and Android. With many new Android devices out and on the horizon, as well as the recent “droid does” campaign, Android has joined our list this month at a surprising 29th place.


Top Brands – September 2009

Twitter falls a bit, but still takes top spot. LG’s new BL20 Chocolate helped LG jump 11 spots. NFL rises again this month as the NFL season heats up. MTV jumps 13 spots due to buzz around the MTV Video Music awards. AT&T’s announcement of MMS support on the iPhone raised AT&T’s position up 5 spots.


Top Brands – August 2009

Twitter’s reign continues at number 1. Disney jumps 9 spots and Marvel joins the list as Disney’s acquisition of Marvel made huge news at the end of the month. Playstation launched 11 spots due to the introduction of the PS3 Slim with its long-awaited price drop. Xbox 360 also made news with the announcement of a price drop, sneaking it up 3 spots.


Top Brands – July 2009

Twitter holds on to the top spot. MySpace jumped 17 mostly due to MySpace’s new mail service. eBay jumped 8 spots and Skype joined the list this month due to a legal battle that may threaten Skype’s future. Starbucks joined the list thanks to their Free Pastry day. BlackBerry jumped 15 from BlackBerry Storm rumors and their new app store. Nintendo, Sony, Playstation and XBox all dropped after buzz from E3 subsided.


Top Brands – June 2009

Twitter held on to the top spot, though once again trending down this month. iPhone and Apple jumped a few spots thanks to buzz around iPhone 3G S release. Firefox jumped 10 from increased chatter leading up to Firefox 3.5 release. CNN jumped 13 due in large part to a surge in chatter surrounding news of Michael Jackson’s death. And HTC joined the Top 50 with talk about its new Android smartphone, HTC Hero.


Top Brands – May 2009

The top six brands held their positions in this month’s list. Twitter, Google, Obama, iPhone, Facebook and YouTube remain strong with increased buzz across all online mediums. Linux moved up two spots, while the NBA jumped six spots thanks to an exciting month of Playoff games. Nintendo dropped 8 spots as some of the video game chatter shifted to Microsoft’s Project Natal and Sony’s Motion Controller.


Top Automotive Brands – April 2009

Ford leads due in part to their social media Fiesta Movement campaign. Chrysler is up, spurred largely by talks of its bankruptcy. Pontiac moves up around talks of GM killing the brand.

Twitter once again leads the Top 50 list in April 2009. Digg joined the Top 50 with the launch of the DiggBar. Oracle also joined the list after acquiring Sun Microsystems. Dell dropped 23 spots as buzz around the March announcement of the new Adamo faded, while CNN jumped 10 spots thanks to the race to a million Twitter followers with Ashton Kutcher.


Top Brands – March 2009

Twitter dominates the pack, leaving other brands in the dust. Skype’s iPhone / iPod Touch app gives it a leap in conversations. Fedex surges rank this month primarily due to a viral video and discussions of plane crash in Japan.
